Patriots Fan Blogger Accepts Full Responsibility For Browns Loss

November 8, 2010 by Mike Dussault

Many in Patriots Nation are probably wondering today how the Pats could possibly look so atrocious against the Cleveland Browns yesterday. For a team that some called the best in the NFL just days before this Patriots team looked lost in a sea of confusion and poor execution. Sure, you could point to poor tackling, an inability to stop Peyton Hillis or a completely ineffective offense. But the truth as to why the Patriots looked like the worst team in the NFL yesterday is actually something completely unexpected.

I, Patriots fan blogger Mike Dussault, didn’t wear my white authentic Tom Brady jersey yesterday.

I could’ve not mentioned anything, no one would’ve really known, but I feel I owe it to the team and the fans to come clean.

You see I was in Boston this weekend for Blogapalooza and while packing for the trip I assumed that my 2010 lucky hat would suffice in covering the Pats for a good performance. I didn’t want to stuff my cherished white Brady into an already over-stuffed bag.

Choosing which jersey is the lucky one for a season is an art form. I knew the white Brady was the magic one after wearing it week one, but then giving my silver Moss a try against the Jets. Bad move. I went back to the white Brady for the Bills game and haven’t looked back since. Until that fateful packing decision.

How else can you explain the each and every Patriot being so useless yesterday? In most cases a few players can have bad games, but never do you see something like we witnessed yesterday without some kind of powerful, mystical forces at work. Forces like someone not wearing their lucky schwag for the game.

While the rest of Patriots Nation was putting on their trusted uniforms that had worked flawlessly the past five games, I was putting on this awesome TFB t-shirt…

(Get yours at townienews.com)

I don’t want to take anything away from this tshirt, because clearly it’s the most badass Patriots tshirt on the planet and I have no doubt that when working in conjunction with my white Brady jersey it will bring many, many wins. But yesterday it was unable to handle the task alone.

Please do not blame players like Rob Gronkowski, even though on the surface it might look like Gronk alone cost us at least a 14-point swing. It was all Mike D.

And don’t blame a horrible week of practice. If I had just done my job like Coach Belichick preaches, it would not have mattered.

It feels good to get this off my chest. To come clean and claim responsibility for what was clearly the ugliest loss since that game that happened last January that people told me was pretty gruesome (I blocked it out).

So to the New England Patriots organization and fans I would like to express my true and sincere apologies. Never again this season will I be without the white Brady jersey and 2010 fitted gray hat. That is my fan uniform this year and I will not deviate again.

And speaking of former Pats assistants looking like morons after beating their mentor here’s Josh McDaniels from last year. Things have really gone great for ole’ Josh since that game huh? Seriously, there’s a very good chance this video is McDaniels at the peak of his career as head coach of the Broncos.

I understand former assistants are excited to beat the man who gave them their careers but unless you’re beating him in the Super Bowl is it really necessary to go off like this? In the grand scheme of last years NFL season did this win really mean anything at the end of the year? Nope.

This celebration pretty much assures us that the Browns will have a letdown against the Jets next week. Well can it really be a letdown when you’re 3-5? Great job guys, you’re still 2 games under .500.

In the words of Randy Moss… “Act like you’ve been there before”.

Bruschi’s 5 Observations: Pats vs. Browns

This didn’t really make me feel that much better, but it did a little bit. Clearly there was somewhat of a perfect storm going on against the Patriots this weekend.

Notes on an Un-Rewatchable Patriots Loss

November 8, 2010 by Mike Dussault

I tried to watch the short cut of the Patriots game this morning. Got about halfway through and then just turned it off. It’s not often there are maybe 3 things in the entire game that make you feel positive.

We were due for a game when the rookies and young guys played like rookies and young guys. It didn’t help that Fredo Mangini and Brian Daboll (who I am pretty sure I caught screaming “F You Belichick! F You Belichick” on camera) had the bye week to get all cutesy with their game plan.

The Pats sucked. The Browns couldn’t screw a play up if they tried. Sometimes that’s just how the pigskin falls. So of course in today’s NFL, where everything must be ranked and predictable, the Patriots will fall from the unstoppable team with the best record to an atrocious team that shares the best record. What does it mean? That the Patriots aren’t there yet. Big whoop. It’s November 8th.

The fact is that the Pats just wrapped up the second quarter of their season going 3-1. I’ll take that. The fact that they capped it off with the second and ugliest loss of the season should only serve as motivation as we move toward the real heart of the schedule.

So there won’t be much further reflection on the Browns game. Anyone who’s played sports knows there are some days you just can’t do anything right. It’s best to bury those games and not get too over-analytical about what went wrong and what it all means.

Football especially is a game of choreography and timing. When you are lacking those elements to your game you’re going to look like my freshman football team.

Some quick hit notes so I can just be done with this turdfest.

– One thing I don’t understand is why the Patriots opened with a Wilfork – Pryor Wright defensive front. We knew going in that the Browns revolved around Peyton Hillis, yet the Pats have a pass rushing front three. Granted Brace, Deaderick and Warren didn’t do much better when they were in there, but this was an interesting decision to me. If an idiot like me was gameplanning I’d stack the line with my best run stoppers, and dare them to make Colt McCoy throw it 30-plus times to beat us. Instead it seems like we were daring them to just keep giving the ball to that beast Hillis and he ran all over us.

– Methinks we need Patchung! back asap. Especially this week.

– Of course Jonathan Wilhite picks the one game everyone else stinks to actually have a good game.

– I’m guessing Gronk isn’t going to have an enjoyable film session with BB today.

– I’m also guessing that Peyton Hillis will spend most of today in an ice bath.

– Did anyone else notice Meriweather get blasted on the TD run by McCoy? I mean BLASTED.

– Shocker that Mankins started and played a ton. I guess that shows you what the coaching staff think of him as a player.

– For all those crying that the loss of Moss is killing Welker, let’s remember he wasn’t 100% to begin with and commented that getting that last little separation quickness back was the hardest part.

– The Browns did exactly to our defense what I was worried about. I was making a half joking comment at Blogapalooza that I wasn’t looking forward to seeing Colt McCoy get off to a 6-7 for 117 yards start. Sadly I wasn’t far off. The Pats have been imminently susceptible to the short passing game, and I thought Jerod Mayo had possibly his worst game of the season because he was out in coverage way too much.

The next two games are going to tell us a lot about this team, at least Pittsburgh will be coming off a short week.

Gone Blogapalooza-ing!

November 5, 2010 by Mike Dussault

Forgive me if there aren’t many updates this weekend, I’m headed to Boston for Blogapalooza and will have limited internet access. If you’re in the Boston area come on down to the Baseball Tavern and say hi. Here’s the link to learn more…

PatsPropaganda.com’s Must Watch/Listen/Read List

November 5, 2010 by Mike Dussault

I know I post a lot of stuff saying Must Read! Must Read! Well here’s the definitive list of what you, a true Patriots fan, needs to watch/listen/read so that you can educate yourself about the team and sport, without all the crazy mediots telling you why the Patriots are stupid.

1. NFL Playbook – they do four shows a week. Tuesday and Wednesday are the review shows where they look back at the games from the past weekend. Then Thursday and Friday we get the AFC and NFC shows which preview the coming weekend’s games. Watch this show and you’ll gain a far better understanding of the sport of football. Mike Mayock is one of my personal heroes.

2. Patriots All Access – there’s really no excuse not to watch this, you can watch it online if you’re not in the Boston area. Nowhere else will you get better…well… access inside the Patriots organization. From player profiles, to video from the sidelines and in the locker room, to the Bill Belichick Breakdowns where he shows film stuff… it’s can’t miss TV for Patriots fans.

3. Mike Reiss/Tedy Bruschi Podcast – This is a new addition this season but you get Reiss, the best beat reporter in the NFL, and Brufasa (yes that’s Tedy’s twitter real twitter account, you’d know that if you listened to this podcast) giving an inside look at the Patriots.

4. PatsPropaganda.com – okay I put this here as a joke, kinda.

5. WEEI Bill Belichick Interview – these are usually posted on Monday afternoon and nowhere else will you find a more close-to-candid Bill Belichick. You get really great insight, and Ordway et al usually avoid stupid questions they know won’t be answered. And by usually I mean, at least once per episode they still ask something they already know the answer to, or at least how it will be answered, but you get the point.

Honorable Mention:

WEEI Coffee With the Quarterback – would be higher if I didn’t hate Dennis & Callahan.

ESPN’s NFL Matchup – I might watch this if I hadn’t sworn off ESPN.

Inside the NFL – more highlights, less talking guys.

Vince Wilfork Patriots Friday WEEI Interview – this would be number 6 in the must listen list, but I had to cut it at 5 because top 6 lists are stupid.

That’s all folks…

Welp, it was a disappointing end to a spectacular season. The Jets absolutely outplayed the Pats and were clearly the veteran team that was ready to play. Had the Pats not exceeded expectations a divisional round exit is probably about what could’ve been expected for this young team. So we can’t help but feel confident […]
