Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore suffers partially torn quad

News has emerged that Gilmore’s injury whilst better than first feared, will require surgery and end his 2020 season.

Here’s the injury from yesterday.

Rapsheet reports that Gilmore suffered a partially torn quad muscle in a non-contact play during yesterday’s game in Miami.

Considering how it looked, the injury could have been much worse for Stephon Gilmore. His knees are fine, the quad should heal and he’ll he back to 100% long before next season. https://t.co/Zfz9UAUUgN

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) December 21, 2020

Better news for both Gilmore and the Patriots, as originally, the concern was that it may have been a serious knee injury. Thankfully the consensus is that he will be back to 100% for the start of 2021 pre-season, whether that be in New England or elsewhere.

When They Last Met…

Patriots 13-3 Rams
February 3, 2019

Super Bowl LIII

Yes, that’s right, the last time these team’s faced off was in Atlanta at Super Bowl LIII.

The Rams made it to the Championship Game in dubious circumstances following the NFC Championship game against the Saints and that infamous PI no call. The Patriots on the other hand needed overtime to see the Chiefs in one of the best football games I’ve ever seen.

The Pats got off to a bad start on their first drive as Tom Brady’s pass intended for Chris Hogan was intercepted by Corey Littleton. Patriots then got the ball back and put together a nice drive before stalling, Stephen Gostkowski’s field goal went wide left.

Patriots claim former Buccaneers LB Jack Cichy on waivers

December 3, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

(AP Photo/Michael Ainsworth)

Some support for the linebacker and special teams group arrives today as the Patriots make Jack Cichy their third waiver claim of the season.

Patriots have claimed LB Jack Cichy on waivers from the Buccaneers. Cichy (6-2, 238) fits the profile of a tough, high-effort, high-character core special teamer. He has battled injuries at Wisconsin and since entering NFL as a 6th round pick in 2018. A $750k base salary in '21.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) December 3, 2020

Cichy has battled various injuries since he was drafted by Tampa Bay in 2018, now, he joins the Patriots main roster following his release yesterday.

He’ll need to clear COVID protocols before being eligible to join the rest of the team, a new late-season addition to analyze as the team heads down the final stretch.

Patriots place three on Injured Reserve

November 28, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

(AP Photo/Frank Victores)

First reported by Field Yates, the Patriots have placed Rex Burkhead, Isaiah Wynn, and Carl Davis on IR.

The Patriots are placing starting LT Isaiah Wynn (knee), RB Rex Burkhead (knee) and NT Carl Davis (concussion) on injured reserve, per source.

— Field Yates (@FieldYates) November 28, 2020

After all but confirming his season was over this past week on social media, Burkhead’s movement to the reserve list isn’t surprising, Nor is Wynn’s, he also picked up a knock also in last Sunday’s game.

if wilfork goes, do they try to replace him with a similar rookie DT? if said rookie is taken, and who else would value a run stuffing dt in this pass happy league, does it change what they try to do on defense? essentially, the defense has been wilfork centric, do you see it continue to be so?

Wrote about this last week in depth, check it out here. Maybe you pick up a big fat nose tackle later in the draft, but I don’t see the value it taking someone like Louis Nix III in the first round just because he has similar dimension to Wilfork. Wilfork was a one-of-a-kind player, not […]
