Haynesworth clotheslines Reggie Bush

One of the things I was most surprised about with Albert was how quick he was. He’s so sudden, and on this play above just slipped through the double team and grabbed Bush with one arm.

PatsFans/Ian Logue: Charting Out the Patriots Passing Game vs. Miami

PatsFans/Ian Logue: Charting Out the Patriots Passing Game vs. Miami

Some really interesting work here from FOPP’er Ian Logue. The balance that they are able to achieve is astounding.

Also interesting when it comes to the passing game plan last night was the concerted effort to challenge the defense ten yards and further from the line of scrimmage.

Here’s some nuggets from ESPN Boston last night.

Brady was 10 of 17 for 310 yards on throws that traveled more than 10 yards in the air Monday night; his most attempts of that distance in a single game dating back to 2008.

Tom Brady targeted Wes Welker on throws of at least 15 yards four times Monday night, including Welker’s 99-yard touchdown catch. Last season, Brady targeted Welker on throws of that length just eight times all season and never twice in one game.

On the surface this looks to me like a way to not be quite as horizontal as they were in 2010. The Jets felt confident in the playoffs challenging all short passes, but if the Pats continue performances like these it will certainly make Rexy think twice before using the same game plan he did in January.

ESPN/Reiss: Patriots D snaps vs. Dolphins

ESPN/Reiss: Patriots D snaps vs. Dolphins

The d snaps is always my favorite Mike Reiss post of the regular season and here’s the first one of 2011. McCourty, Chung and Mayo are the iron men, playing all snaps. Mike Wright and Josh Barrett are the unknown potential injuries that need to be monitored.

Boston Herald/Borges: Changing times always seem to fit the Bill

Boston Herald/Borges: Changing times always seem to fit the Bill

A little bit of insight into the base front switch this season.

“There are so many things now (offensively) you didn’t see in the 1970s and the ’80s,” Belichick said before last night’s season-opening 38-24 win against the Miami Dolphins [team stats]. “With so many formations today it makes it harder on the defense. The tight end is most often another receiver, not a blocker. One-back formations proliferate, and often it’s empty (backfields, with only the quarterback behind the line). All hell broke loose 20 years ago. Today, half the plays are with three or more wide receivers on the field, so half the time you’ve got more than four defensive backs on the field. Half the time (last year) we had five.”
