Launch The Cannon(s)

August 28, 2016 by Adam Magnacca

Guys, Marcus Cannon is good.

I know, I know, I know…but hear me out. I looked at the tape. I looked at when he played in 2011 as a rookie. I watched him when he played in the Dave DeGuglielmo (spelled that without having to look it up thank you very much) offense where they were rotated in and out like a clock and I watched him this preseason back under the legendary Dante Scarnecchia. He’s good.

Video: Attempting the Patriots Conditioning Test

August 11, 2016 by Adam Magnacca

I am an NFL-caliber athlete! Okay, maybe not. But what I can claim is that I ran the Patriots Training Camp Conditioning Test.

Little disclaimer, it is not for the faint of heart.  The test is a set of sprints that players do upon arriving to camp.

Let’s break it down:

  • The test that I ran was 3 sets of 10 sprints
  • Each sprint was 40yds
  • Each sprint has to be completed in 7 seconds
  • I get 30 seconds of rest between sprints
  • I get 3 minutes of rest between sets

After a morning involving the gym and a massive pancake breakfast (Tilly’s Diner, shoutout to you) I decided that it was the perfect time to run more than I’ve ever ran since high school. I also decided to forgo stretching or warming up remotely because that’s for the weak. I’ve never regretted anything more in my life.

The moral of the story?

The 300-pound man with a belly the size of a yoga ball is probably in better shape than me.

Malcolm Butler Named 8th Best CB on Ringer NFL Show

July 12, 2016 by Adam Magnacca

I think that Malcolm Butler is sort of a laboratory to prove how much confidence has to do with the Cornerback position. I remember speaking to him the Thursday before the Super Bowl…and he lacked confidence, he was not brash or bold or anything. I talked to him before the season last year, 8 months after he made one of the biggest plays ever, and there was just a different air about him. That showed on the field and now I think he’s a top ten player. I just don’t think you can put any sort of quantitative value on confidence.

-Kevin Clark: The Ringer NFL Show
July 8, 2016

I found the nugget about Butler’s growth to be interesting. I love the energy and confidence Butler plays with and I think it’s been one of his best allies on the field. Butler said himself after the Super Bowl he knew he was gonna make a play. A little swagger seemed to be his secret weapon.
