2009 Blog Flashback: Atogwe the Free Agent the Patriots need?

Two years ago I called the just-released OJ Atogwe “the free agent the Patriots need”. Well, the Rams franchised him and he played two more years in St. Louis, but as of today he’s available again. 

I’m not sure what Atogwe has left, but he might be worth the Pats checking out. Clearly Brandon Meriweather was up and down last season, yet was still playing over James Sanders when it counted most.

If Atogwe was a consistent and playmaking presence at the back end of the defense he would definitely be an upgrade for a team that struggled defending the pass.

BB on Atogwe in 2009:

I can’t pronounce his name but he is a very productive guy with eight interceptions last year and he has already had a bunch this year including pre-season. He is around the ball a lot.
