Tweets of Note: Patriots Final Training Camp Practice #16

August 17, 2016 by Mike Dussault

And that’ll do it for training camp. It’s been just under three weeks and now practices won’t be open to the public as the team transitions to more of their usual schedule. It’s good that the Pats escaped this portion of the summer, including two weeks of joint practices, without a season-ending injury to anyone important. Of course there’s still plenty of time to go before the season starts, including three games, but making it this far is a good sign.

The final joint practice with the Bears was little more than a walk through, so there were no fights and no great plays to report. Still there was plenty to take away as far as tomorrow night’s game is concerned.

Here are the final Tweets of Note…

No Gronk for 2nd straight day. Jabaal Sheard absent for 4th straight practice. Also no Shea McClellin for 3rd straight day.

Things are going to be interesting on defense tomorrow night. Probably see plenty of Jonathan Freeny and Kamu Grugier-Hill at linebacker.

Rob Ninkovich, Malcolm Mitchell, Danny Amendola, Keshawn Martin, Donald Brown, DJ Foster, Bryce Williams leave practice for conditioning.

None of these guys will be playing. Foster and Williams are two guys that really interest me, and part of me thinks they could be being hidden by the coaches somewhat and candidates for the “Foxboro Flu” to give them a red shirt year. Williams really looked like he fit in at tight end, he has the size and movement skills, and could really blossom with a year to learn. Foster is another guy who I’ve heard good things about and that he really could have significant role in the future. We’ll see if we get any of them the last two weeks of August.

Lots of situational drills today. Lots of onside kicks. They even practiced last minute lateral plays.

Snooze.

With Logan Ryan still in a red jersey, the top three CBs tomorrow will likely be Butler, CJones and Coleman

Same as last week. It’s a good, aggressive group. Curious to see how they match up with the good Bears’ receivers.

With all the injuries, Chris Long and Trey Flowers were the starting DEs

Excited to see Flowers get a shot starting with the top defense tomorrow night. He’s beat up on backups in his two years of preseason action, now it’s time to see what he can do against the big boys.

Walkthrough is over. Think I saw some grass grow so that’s cool.

No one is more fun on the Twitter machine than Jeff Howe.

As far as Mayock is concerned, New England did itself a huge favor in trading up twice to land impact defensive players Chandler Jones and Dont’a Hightower. “Bill Belichick’s M.O. is to trade down,” Mayock said. “However, I believe Bill knows a thoroughbred when he sees one. He knows that defense is what they lacked […]
