Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 5

August 1, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Fred Kfoury III/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

After what felt like forever (it was only a week), we have pads! Pads mean an increase in physicality to practice, and it really is the first time you’ll be able to begin making informed opinions on who may or may not make the roster.

Week 2 of Patriots Training Camp is here, let’s see what were the Tweets Of Note!

Pads are on. pic.twitter.com/aBq4aj0mmP

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) August 1, 2022

Mike D keeps bringing the different camera angles from camp, another glorious day, made even better by the addition of shoulder pads.

Patriots’ punter Jake Bailey reached agreement on a four-year, $13.5 million contract that includes $6.5 million fully guaranteed and runs through 2025 season, per source. The new deal makes Bailey one of the league’s three highest-paid punters.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 1, 2022

Just before practice, a report broke that punter Jake Bailey had signed a new 4-year extension with the team, making him one of the league’s highest-paid players at the position. This will apparently free up some cap space whilst confirming Bailey as the team’s punter long-term.

Jonathan Jones (PUP list), Jabrill Peppers (PUP) and Myles Bryant (NFI) are in pads, indicating they’ve been activated.

— Andrew Callahan (@_AndrewCallahan) August 1, 2022

The defense gets some reinforcements thanks to these three returning to the field. Reports were that they worked back in at a steady pace, but I’m just glad they’re back out there and we’ll get to take a look at Peppers especially, I think he could play a role for the team this season if he can stay healthy.

From today’s @Patriots’ practice, their first in pads this training camp, here’s rookie receiver Tyquan Thornton, who later connected with Mac Jones on a 50-yard beauty (throw and catch) down the right sideline. pic.twitter.com/r43RlyH2Pz

— Bob Socci (@BobSocci) August 1, 2022

Just a downfield rep here, but Mac Jones spent a portion of today’s session throwing deep passes, something which Pats fans will be wanting to see more of in the regular season.

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 4

July 30, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

The first week of the 2022 season is in the books and the team will enjoy a well-deserved rest tomorrow before padding up on Monday. Let’s find out what happened on Day 4 of Training Camp with today’s Tweets Of Note!

Day 4 and the stands are already getting full. pic.twitter.com/Qn0dyvcfuT

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) July 30, 2022

Another stunning day on the practice fields talked by Mike D early this morning, alluding to the

There are fans watching practice from up on the stadium ramps, indicating an overflow crowd for the first weekend training camp day of the year

— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) July 30, 2022

Great to hear the fans were pouring back in on a nice Saturday morning, more space needed!

Rookie RB Pierre Strong still is limited

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) July 30, 2022

No new absences, but still missing is backup QB Brian Hoyer, once again giving Bailey Zappe a chance at more reps. Pierre Strong remains limited for a fourth day, I’m unsure if he’ll be ready to participate in the first preseason game against the Giants next week.

A cup of coffee in human form. @BournePoly11 is always good to go, be it day 4 of #Patriots training camp, or game day, he's having himself a TIME pic.twitter.com/y1JuyNX6wI

— The Camera Guys (@NBCSCameraGuys) July 30, 2022

Can’t wait to see more of this connection in the regular season!

Jakobi Meyers with his first highlight grab of camp during red zone 11’s

— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) July 30, 2022

Haven’t heard much on Meyers through the first week, he’s been involved, Alex Barth noted him making a highlight play today in the more competitive 11on11 portion of practice.

Personally, I feel this is an important year for Meyers, he could easily sign a new deal at the end of the year, leave in free agency, or, be traded by the deadline. I hope he stays.

Good day for Terrance Mitchell. Forces an incompletion on a fade to Jonnu. He has held up all week. #Patriots

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 30, 2022

Mitchell is in contention for a decent role on defense with Jon Jones still on PUP and J.C. Jackson departing in free agency. It’s good to hear that as well as the defense having the momentum over the last few days, Mitchell has been involved and made people take notice.

Patriots defense wins the day today. Handily. Dominated the 11-on-11 periods at the end of practice.

Highlight was a Kyle Dugger pick that would’ve gone for six the other way. Mac Jones scrambled, stopped, threw back across the grain. Dugger jumped it and was gone.

— Phil Perry (@PhilAPerry) July 30, 2022

Phil Perry summarises another good day for the defense, pointing out that Kyle Dugger getting his revenge on Mac Jones after allowing multiple touchdowns yesterday. Dugger picked off QB1 in a dominant afternoon for the defense.

Tristen Vizcaino just hit all five field goal attempts. He showed off a solid leg.

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) July 30, 2022

The yearly camp kicking competition is underway, not that I think Nick Folk will be de-throned, but the first note on kicking I’ve seen so thought I’d include it today.

Christian Barmore was in the backfield almost instantly in last 11s rep. Would’ve been a sack. #Patriots

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 30, 2022

For the big boys up front it’s hard to take a lot out of what they do in the first week, Bill even said the first week is just a continuation of OTAs. It’s good to hear Barmore having success, but I want to see his name mentioned more and more next week with pads on. He’s going to be really important for the team this season.

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 3

July 29, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Another day in the books for the 2022 Patriots Training Camp. Some real positive things to feel good about this week, with another session tomorrow before a break on Sunday. Let’s take a look at today’s Tweets Of Note!

Day 3 and the heat is rising. pic.twitter.com/vC5ZVQ2tAl

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) July 29, 2022

Another stunning day in Foxborough for Day 3, the team has certainly had the weather on it’s side so far.

David Andrews is back in uniform today. Looks like he’s off the PUP list. pic.twitter.com/FJtkIWvm6F

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) July 29, 2022

David Andrews made it back on the field for the first time this preseason, having been included on the PUP list to begin camp. There was never any real concern over Andrew’s condition, but it sure is great to have one of the team leaders back on the field.

The “Mac Moment” of fan recognition that has become commonplace through the start of training camp. pic.twitter.com/HlmJnE9DsP

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) July 29, 2022

Everybody loves Mac Jones.

Looks like the Patriots will be down to two QBs today. No sign of Brian Hoyer at the start of practice.

Hoyer didn’t take any reps in team drills yesterday.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) July 29, 2022

This is something to keep an eye on, Hoyer was absent today after not taking any reps yesterday, a good opportunity for Bailey Zappe to gain some extra reps.

The #Patriots are in shells for the first time today. Little ramp up.

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 29, 2022

Evan Lazar notes the gradual progression into full pads, but today, shells and helmets.

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 2

July 28, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Steven Senne – Associated Press

Day 1 saw a strong day for the offense, especially DeVante Parker, who linked up nicely with Mac Jones in a redzone-heavy first practice of Training Camp. Here are the Tweets Of Note from Day 2!

Bill Belichick called Davon Godchaux one of the best defensive linemen in the league this morning. Godchaux signed a two-year extension yesterday. pic.twitter.com/eXJowcsker

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) July 28, 2022

The first question posed to Bill this morning at his pre-training press conference was about the contract extension which was given to DT Davon Godchaux last night. Bill described him as one of the best defensive tackles in the league.

Marcus Jones fielding punts. One of most dynamic returners in the history of college football. #Patriots pic.twitter.com/4SSlOyNcSs

— Mike Giardi (@MikeGiardi) July 28, 2022

Marcus Jones is an intriguing player, who, is a little on the small side, but he for sure looks like he can contribute straight away for the team as a specialist. With Gunner Olszewski moving on to Pittsburgh, a role is open for a punt returner. Jones has been fielding punts so far in camp, but It’s hard to tell how well he’s been doing. It’ll be worth keeping an eye on his progression in this role through the first preseason game as I’m sure he’ll be one of a few on return duty.

Mac Jones and Hunter Henry just linked up for an impressive TD over Kyle Dugger in 7-on-7. First highlight reel play of Day 2*

(*Jonnu Smith had a great jump-ball catch, but he committed a false start that would have nullified it.)

— Henry McKenna (@henrycmckenna) July 28, 2022

Mac to Henry last year was one of the few scoring partnerships which worked in the redzone, nice to hear a continuation of that today.

WR/RB Ty Montgomery continues to be heavily involved in the offense here at #Patriots camp.

— Mike Kadlick (@mikekadlick) July 28, 2022

I personally didn’t think Montgomery would be in major contention for a place on the roster, but so far he’s been involved and seems to be potentially carving out a role for himself on offense. While James White remains on PUP, Montgomery will certainly be expecting to play a role this year.

DeVante Parker with another beautiful TD on a contested catch against Jalen Mills. Crowd goes wild again. Parker has been the star of the show the first two days

— Ben Volin (@BenVolin) July 28, 2022

Mac Jones ➡️ DeVante Parker❗️🚨 #Patriots pic.twitter.com/EhlVFVh7Ev

— PatsPropaganda (@PatsPropaganda) July 28, 2022

Two Tweets for this one, Ben Volin’s description played out from a retweet on our blog Twitter page, showcasing a nice play between Mac and Parker right on the far side of the endzone, beating Jalen Mills in coverage.

Swung by #Patriots training camp again today. No. 24 S/SCB Joshuah Bledsoe is an early standout. I've seen him involved in five forced incompletions in two days. 2021 sixth-round pick out of Missouri.

— Doug Kyed (@DougKyed) July 28, 2022

Doug Kyed notes that Josh Bledsoe is having a fine start to camp, continuing on from a successful first day with another solid session this morning. Bledsoe has a real chance of playing a role in the secondary this year, especially if he can continue this when the pads come on next week.

.@MacJones_10 made a young fan’s birthday very special🙌🏽 #ForeverNE pic.twitter.com/hSsaPYTGxX

— NBC Sports Boston's Patriots Coverage (@NBCSPatriots) July 28, 2022

Something to bring a smile to your face for the final one today, Mac taking a photo with a young fan on his 5th birthday.

Day 3 tomorrow! LFG

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 1

July 27, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Camp is back! This offseason has dragged along since the Draft in April, but finally, we have some football again. If you’re new here, Tweets Of Note breaks down Twitter posts of note from Pats reporters in attendance at Training Camp.

Perfect day to kick off training camp. pic.twitter.com/vflzADrttg

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) July 27, 2022

Mike D posted his obligatory training field photo early this morning, showcasing the beautiful weather over Foxborough for the first day of Training Camp.

Belichick says the Patriots will start camp by working on the red area. Their first day of pads will be on Monday. pic.twitter.com/JJcWvH3JIR

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) July 27, 2022

Donning some new ‘BB’ shorts, Bill opened up his morning presser by confirming the day would be spent focusing on redzone work along with confirming that pads wouldn’t be worn until next Monday.

Bill Murray (62), a DT from William & Mary who has spent the last two years on the Patriots’ practice squad, is set to get some work with the offensive line as training camp opens.

Would make for a Hollywood-type script if he could pull it off and earn a roster spot. pic.twitter.com/nTLRMqQoFR

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) July 27, 2022

Not totally uncommon for the odd few players to try out on the opposite side of the ball early on in Camp, so something to watch as the days merge together on how Murray progresses on the offensive line.

No unexpected absences from the Patriots’ first training camp practice. Not practicing:

David Andrews (PUP)
James White (PUP)
Jonathan Jones (PUP)
Jabrill Peppers (PUP)
Myles Bryant (NFI)
Jake Bailey (non-football illness)
Chasen Hines (NFI)
Andrew Stueber (NFI)

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) July 27, 2022

Good start with no new absences for the first day, here’s hoping David Andrews, Jon Jones, Jabrill Peppers and others can get back on the field soon. Some questions still linger about James White and if he’ll be able to play a role at all this season.

Patriots Tweets Of Note: Mini Camp 06/08/22

June 8, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Day 2 of Mini Camp is in the books and there was plenty of interesting reports from those lucky enough to be in attendance, so let’s check out today’s Tweets Of Note!

Cloudy with some off and on light rain as we get ready to kick if day 2 of minicamp. pic.twitter.com/ZSMz2CokjB

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) June 8, 2022

Mike D’s daily vantage point picture shows a gloomy look over the Foxboro practice fields.

Lot of run for rookie CB Jack Jones today. He had some hiccups in coverage but grabbed an INT (vs. Bailey Zappe and Kristian Wilkerson) and punched the ball out of Nelson Agholor’s hands for a fumble.

Patriots’ CB battle is going to be fun to watch this summer.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) June 8, 2022

Jack Jones has certainly been the standout of the rookie class so far, he was around the ball a lot today making plays. I also watched his press conference after and seems like a good kid who has matured since his distractions in college.

Up close with the Patriots D-linemen and edge rushers pic.twitter.com/pD8FXoYg9P

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) June 8, 2022

Love to see this up close sled work, the big boys putting the work in.

What play had Mac Jones running down the field, pumping his fist in excitement, and letting out a loud roar?

A drop-in-the-bucket deep ball to Tre Nixon, over the shoulder, that Nixon impressively brought in ONE-HANDED.

Tightest of windows…it was well done on a deep-ball day.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) June 8, 2022

The Jones-Nixon connection continues, and Ernie Adams’ final pick of the 2021 Draft is beginning to create a frenzy from his early camp performances, this is for sure a partnership to watch.

Mac Jones had a brace on his left knee today. Didn’t appear bothered by it, but a change from yesterday. pic.twitter.com/BEmSJcn2kj

— Phil Perry (@PhilAPerry) June 8, 2022

A bigger brace on for Mac today, always something of note when any mobility supports are changed on a QB, but it didn’t seem to impact his throwing that’s for sure.

For the second straight day, Matt Patricia appeared to be calling plays and running the huddle during team drills.

— Henry McKenna (@henrycmckenna) June 8, 2022

Another narrative that’s running wild is who will be calling plays for the offense this season, Patricia seems to be the front runner, as he continued to call team drills, but I have a feeling we won’t be finding out officially anytime soon.

Patriots minicamp Day 2 attendance

Absent: Nick Folk, Quinn Nordin, Chasen Hines, Andrew Stueber, Carl David and Byron Cowart

Limited: Marcus Jones, Meyers, Henry, White, Keene

Returned: Kendrick Bourne

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) June 8, 2022

Some noted attendees by Mark Daniels with nothing too major to reflect on. Kendrick Bourne did return today as expected.

More tomorrow!

Patriots Tweets Of Note: OTAs 06/07/22

June 7, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Tweets Of Note is back! I’ll be covering tweets from reporters present at all three OTA practices this week starting with what went down at today’s first mandatory session.

We’re high above the practice fields for day one of minicamp! Tune in live at 12:45 on https://t.co/pr5YT1PFpK. pic.twitter.com/zhGb8tEkwD

— Mike Dussault (@MikeDussault19) June 7, 2022

Mike D offers a great view from his vantage point today, covering the action for Patriots Unfiltered!

Michael Onwenu says he’s worked at guard and tackle this offseason pic.twitter.com/B5rIcTjDeA

— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) June 7, 2022

An interesting note by Mike Onwenu is that he’s been continuing to work at both guard and tackle during his time away, it could be a big year for him in the offensive front.

Wynn, Judon and Harry all were present for first time this spring. Didn’t see Kendrick Bourne today as Nixon seemed to pick up some of those reps

— Paul Perillo (@pfwpaul) June 7, 2022

Bourne was one of the most notable absentees from today’s first mandatory session, although the consensus is that he’ll be back on the field in the coming days. I thought Harry may have sat out, but he was also there, but I think he’ll be traded by the start of Training Camp.

Mac Jones spent 45 minutes on the field after practice. Probably threw an extra 100 passes, focusing primarily on footwork. He then appeared to run through the script of the final two practice periods by himself, calling plays, making signals at the line and pacing the field.

— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) June 7, 2022

It will be interesting to see if this is a thing Mac keeps going throughout the summer, or if it’s more of an OTA pre-camp thing, but the extra work won’t hurt, and it sounded like he made some nice plays today. Expectations are tempered here, no pads, it’s not real football yet.

Inicio de minicamp a todo ritmo. 📷#PatriotsEspañol pic.twitter.com/kvssi06yzt

— Patriots Español (@patriotsespanol) June 7, 2022

Some nice action shots on the Spanish Pats account!

Highlight at day one of #Patriots minicamp: Mac Jones dime to Tre Nixon on a smooth post-corner route between DMac and Jon Jones. Huge reaction to the catch by the offense. Plenty of zip on that throw from Mac.

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) June 7, 2022

A lot of reports mentioned this play from Jones to Nixon, the latter of which spent his rookie season on the practice squad.

Belichick describes the changes to the offensive system as “streamlining” and adds it’s something the #Patriots did defensively in 2019 and 2020.

— Andrew Callahan (@_AndrewCallahan) June 7, 2022

An interesting bit from Bill’s presser today, I wonder if Cam Newton wished they would have done this when he was in New England?

The Patriots practice nearly ended in a fight, with a scrum forming after Cole Strange dove at Matt Judon's legs after a fumble. The defense and offense squabbled over the play.

— Henry McKenna (@henrycmckenna) June 7, 2022

Yes! A bit of aggression early on, involving this year’s first-round pick Cole Strange.

Trent Brown remained at left tackle with Isaiah Wynn debuting this offseason at right tackle. They also aligned this way during limited action in the 2018 minicamp so nothing is necessarily permanent. Certainly a trend to continue monitoring though.

— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) June 7, 2022

This is indeed new, something to watch as the summer rolls on, Wynn is heading into the final year of his contract, having really underwhelmed by my expectations in a Patriots uniform, I don’t really know what his season is shaping up to be. We’ll see.

More tomorrow, Go Pats!

I think it is clear that Tom Brady and his lawyers now have the upper hand given the information that has come out in the last two weeks. Do you think it makes more sense for Brady and his lawyers to not budge in settlement talks and hold out for a complete exoneration by the judge?

In my non-expert opinion I agree and it looks like Brady’s team has a compelling case and really, how could they not with how the NFL has handled this thing? But there’s always an element of unknown when you allow someone else to make the decision. Still, I think Brady will be steadfast that he […]
