Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 6

August 2, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

Another day of pads in the books, and another day on top for the Patriots defense. The first preseason game against the Giants is in less than a week, with still much work to be done.

Let’s take a look at the Tweets Of Note from Training Camp Day 6!

One new absence on Day 6 of Patriots camp: TE Dalton Keene.

Also out:

QB Brian Hoyer
RB James White
OL Chasen Hines
OL Andrew Stueber

DE Deatrich Wise is here but working on a side field.

Two new DBs are here, wearing Nos. 35 and 36. Would assume one is Brad Hawkins.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 2, 2022

Dalton Keene was the only new absence, joining Brian Hoyer who was also missing again.

Ronnie Perkins has had one of the best practices I’ve seen from him. He had a sack, a couple run stuffs and has been in the backfield plenty today

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) August 2, 2022

The first real note about Ronnie Perkins, the third-round pick from last year’s draft. Perkins is still only 22, and has an opportunity to play a role this year, starting with the preseason games, he’ll be one to keep an eye on.

Lot of action for Bailey Zappe today. He and the second-team offense took 13 consecutive reps in the latest 11-on-11 period.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 2, 2022

With Mac presumably having his reps managed today to ensure he doesn’t get burned out, Bailey Zappe got a ton of important time in competitive 11-on-11 practice. The rookie could well be earning himself a place on the roster.

Active day for Henry Anderson. Forced a throwaway earlier with pressure off the edge, then batted down a Mac Jones pass at the line.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 2, 2022

Anderson, who had his 2021 season cut short due to a torn pec showed up today, as noted by Zack Cox.

One-handed catch by Tyquan Thornton down the sideline. Jalen Mills was all over him, he found the ball late, but turned his shoulders just in time and hauled it in

— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) August 2, 2022

I feel like we’ve had more production from Thornton out of this camp so far than we did for the entire of N’Keal Harry’s rookie camp in 2019. Thornton continues to make a standout play every day.

In 11-on-11s, the top defense throttled the top offense's production.

Mac Jones took a sack after a pressure from Mack Wilson. The QB also threw the ball at his own feet after pressure from Henry Anderson and Lawrence Guy (which probably would've been another sack, if live)

— Henry McKenna (@henrycmckenna) August 2, 2022

By all accounts, the defense has been on top for a good part of a week now against the offense, and there were no signs of that switching, Wilson, Anderson, and Guy all making life difficult for Jones earlier.

Barmore versus the backup OL went as expected. Basically ruined the period. Barmore is easily the most positive thing going for the #Patriots right now.

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) August 2, 2022

For me, it’s always important to highlight the standout player from each day of camp, even if it’s the same player most days. That player today was Christian Barmore. Evan Lazar’s description of Barmore ruining the period against the offensive line brought a smile to my face.

In a 1-on-1, Nelson Agholor made an absolute CIRCUS catch with one hand. CB Joejuan Williams held up Agholor's left hand with contact, so the WR palmed the ball with his left hand and shoved Williams on the ground. Agholor waltzed into the end zone.

— Henry McKenna (@henrycmckenna) August 2, 2022

Agholor is stringing together a few good practices now, seemingly getting more comfortable with the Pats offense, even if what they’re running is somewhat streamlined according to reports. I’m hoping the battle for the number 1 receiver position against Parker will hot up over the next week or so.

Even after another tough day in the sun, Mac still has time to make a young fan’s birthday wish come true.

Happy Tuesday, Day 7 tomorrow! LFG
