Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 3

July 29, 2022 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Another day in the books for the 2022 Patriots Training Camp. Some real positive things to feel good about this week, with another session tomorrow before a break on Sunday. Let’s take a look at today’s Tweets Of Note!

Another stunning day in Foxborough for Day 3, the team has certainly had the weather on it’s side so far.

David Andrews is back in uniform today. Looks like he’s off the PUP list. pic.twitter.com/FJtkIWvm6F

David Andrews made it back on the field for the first time this preseason, having been included on the PUP list to begin camp. There was never any real concern over Andrew’s condition, but it sure is great to have one of the team leaders back on the field.

Everybody loves Mac Jones.

Looks like the Patriots will be down to two QBs today. No sign of Brian Hoyer at the start of practice.

Hoyer didn’t take any reps in team drills yesterday.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) July 29, 2022

This is something to keep an eye on, Hoyer was absent today after not taking any reps yesterday, a good opportunity for Bailey Zappe to gain some extra reps.

The #Patriots are in shells for the first time today. Little ramp up.

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 29, 2022

Evan Lazar notes the gradual progression into full pads, but today, shells and helmets.

First big play of the day…Mac Jones hits Jonnu Smith running along the end line on a high-point throw. Smith went up and got the ball over his head against Kyle Dugger, then fired up the crowd.

— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) July 29, 2022

A day to forget for Kyle Dugger who gave up multiple touchdowns, but encouraging for the Mac/Jonnu connection which was on show today. Alex Barth notes one of the best plays of the day which fired up the crowd.

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 29, 2022

Tyquan Thornton in his gunner role on the punt team should be a fun watch, not that he needs any extra security for a roster spot, but watching him on special teams should be a treat.

Bill Belichick very much involved in the offensive play-calling at the end of practice today.

We're about six weeks from the season-opener. Would assume it's a the-more-reps-the-better situation for the next play-caller. But maybe there's still a feeling-out process afoot. https://t.co/jSkzzQT06c

— Phil Perry (@PhilAPerry) July 29, 2022

Questions still linger about who’s calling plays on offense, but Bill being Bill, he took over today and called plays himself at the end of practice. My gut feeling is that it’ll be Matt Patricia coordinating the offense as we head down the stretch to Week 1.

Josh Bledsoe got some run with the top defense today in a three-safety package with Adrian Phillips and Kyle Dugger. Snaps available with Devin McCourty getting a rest day. Also spotted him on the top punt-coverage unit. Strong start to camp for him in Year 2. https://t.co/bIrUtthMxO

— Phil Perry (@PhilAPerry) July 29, 2022

More encouraging reports about Josh Bledsoe, who had another strong day, getting reps with the first team defense.

Early Thoughts Day 3 Pats Camp…

*Maccurate passing as always from 10
*Tre Nixon continues his strong offseason, sharp on routes & punts
*If Jonnu Smith’s comeback tour is real he’s letting people know with some highlight catches
*Nick Folk misses nothing, even in practice

Fitzy’s fun-themed notes are something to feel good about, lot’s of positives so far through Day 3 of Training Camp!

Day 4 tomorrow for a lively Saturday crowd! LFG

Nice height and length for the position. Excellent first step, covers a lot of ground with his long strides off the edge. Can run the arc and flashes the flexibility to turn the corner. Swats offensive tackles’ hands off his body to get separation after his first step. Times his spin move up well. Has […]
