Patriots Tweets Of Note: Training Camp Day 13 – Joint Practice w/Carolina

The first joint practice of camp rolled around today as Carolina came to town. The practice itself proved to be a fiery affair, with as always, much to reflect on as a Patriots fan.

No post yesterday as it was a light session without pads, but here are the Tweets Of Note from Day 13 of Patriots Training Camp.

First day of joint practices with the Panthers, perfect weather day, stands already getting full. pic.twitter.com/VlfLJXvMAL

Mike D once again provides a great shot of Gillette Stadium, a beautiful day for football.

#Patriots CB Joejuan Williams has suffered a shoulder injury that will knock him out for the season, source said. The former second rounder had been a depth piece for NE.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 16, 2022

Williams, who was at serious risk of not making the roster this year misses the season anyway through injury. Williams will remain on IR unless the team decides to complete a settlement with him.

Not seeing Isaiah Wynn or Malcolm Butler here today. Haven’t seen Butler since last week’s preseason game with the Giants.

Crowded corner group with Jalen Mills, Jon Jones, Terrance Mitchell and Jack Jones all getting early work outside in recent practices.

— Phil Perry (@PhilAPerry) August 16, 2022

Just Wynn and Butler missing today, although BB said Wynn was day to day, so good chance he’s back tomorrow.

Tyquan beats former Baylor teammate Kaylon Barnes in 1s with a nice post-corner route. Finishes with a diving catch. #Patriots

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) August 16, 2022

The intrigue of Tyquan Thornton continues, earlier he beat his former teammate, who is also very quick in a 1v1 drill.

Justin Bethel is still a handful in punt coverage. He just threw a Panthers defender onto his back while being double-teamed.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 16, 2022

Bethel has had somewhat of a quiet camp, but I back him to make the roster with comfort, he’s an elite special teamer and a good depth cornerback alternative.

Couple highlights from OL-DL one-on-ones:

– Yodny Cajuste with a strong win over Yetur Gross-Matos. Had Cajuste 2-0.

– Trent Brown with a W over Brian Burns

– Cole Strange handled Derrick Brown

– Barmore with a clean win over Bradley Bozeman

– Wise over Deonte Brown

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) August 16, 2022

Sounded like a strong day for both of the Pats line units, Trent Brown popped up in many Tweets today as being solid.

Big fight here. Kristian Wilkerson was on the bottom of it for the Patriots after getting hit while making a catch. We’ll see who gets tossed.

And yes, the ref threw a flag

— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) August 16, 2022

Bill Belichick brought the Patriots together for a long huddle after the latest fight. Likely telling them to stop with the nonsense.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) August 16, 2022

Boy, today sounded chippy out there. Both teams were involved in multiple scrums that saw each team have players chucked out from the NFL referees who were officiating proceedings.

Patrick Chung is back in Foxboro and helping with the DB drills.

— Andrew Callahan (@_AndrewCallahan) August 16, 2022

Patty Chung was back at practice, nice to see him continuing to get involved with the team. Perhaps he’ll stick around as an assistant for the season?

In a simulated 2-minute drill with starters, the Panthers’ offense used a Christian McCaffrey wheel route to get down to the goal line. However, the Patriots’ defense got a Deatrich Wise sack, Jalen Mills goal line PBU, and forced incompletion to win the period

— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) August 16, 2022

Some good defensive work here, almost bend don’t break like in the scenario. Jalen Mills is a name who’s popped up over the last few practice sessions, he’s having a strong preseason.

Although the run game still needs work, thought this was the most aggressive/successful downfield passing day for Mac Jones and the starting offense. Couple high-point fades to Parker and a nice corner route to Meyers stand out. #Patriots

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) August 16, 2022

Evan’s note here certainly gives me some optimism about where the offense is moving, a better day for sure, and good to hear Mac was able to make some good plays today

More tomorrow! LFG
