Patriots Tweets Of Note – Training Camp 08/03

August 3, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

We asked and we were rewarded. #PadTuesday rolled around with force, another nice day in Foxboro, and some hittin! Here are the Tweets of Note you should read from Day 5 of Training Camp!

Michael Onwenu is a tough grader. Asked what he would give himself for a grade last year: “C”

— Ryan Hannable (@RyanHannable) August 3, 2021

This brought a smile to my face when I read this tweet, Onwenu was one of the top players for the team last year in a stellar rookie season, but clearly, he feels he can do more. Now, he’s clearly being modest, but, if he thinks he was just a C grade last year, I can’t wait to see what he brings to the line this season. He’s slowly becoming one of my favorite players.

With pads on for the first time there was predictably a lot of run gam focus. Michel and Harris got lots of run.

— Paul Perillo (@pfwpaul) August 3, 2021

Some work for the backs today as Michel and Harris, the two in Bill’s mind that are fighting it out for the lead back position got most of the reps today.

LB Raekwon McMillan, who showed up in Monday’s practice with two pass breakups, left Tuesday’s practice early after having his foot looked at by medical/athletic training staff. He was covering a punt, and as he throttled down, he showed discomfort by hobbling a bit to sideline.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) August 3, 2021

A shame this, I noted McMillan was having a great start to his camp in yesterday’s post, but a setback today with a foot injury cut short his session. Hopefully, it’s nothing major, but he joins Ted Karras and Henry Anderson with camp injuries.

Man, Christian Barmore is quick

— Alex Barth (@RealAlexBarth) August 3, 2021

Me like this a lot. Haven’t seen any good film of his session today, but I think we’ll get a real good idea of Barmore’s pass rush potential in the pre-season games. Exciting.

Cam Newton seems to be having a nice day. This time airing it out to Jonnu Smith with the toe-tapping catch on the sideline

A good day for Cam, he was launching it by all accounts, a nice completion downfield to Jonnu Smith with the toe tip catch. Lovely stuff.

Great throw here, but what a catch by Harry. He’s been off the boil somewhat in the last few sessions, still out there, but not showing anything major, but what a play this was. Mike Reiss also noted on Twitter that Harry was size and strength were on display today, something which has certainly been lacking over his first few seasons with the team.

Notes from the 1-on-1s:

* Agholor dropped a well-placed bomb from Newton.

* Harry had three downfield grabs from Newton, including two acrobatic back-shoulder grabs.

* Two picks for Myles Bryant (Jones, Hoyer).

* Dugger picked a Jones throw that deflected off Henry's hands. https://t.co/8inRi8tPBa

A few observations from Phil Perry here, the one that sticks out to me however is the work by Myles Bryant. He did almost get killed after getting trucked by Rhamondre Stevenson early on, but he continued his work and had two interceptions as a reward for his efforts. My sneaky pick to make the roster and have an impact this season.

Did the teacher just become the student? Tedy Bruschi dropping knowledge and Bill Belichick is taking notes 🧠 pic.twitter.com/X6RLL4azBm

— The Camera Guys (@NBCSCameraGuys) August 3, 2021

This was a great nugget of footage released by the NBC Camera Guys from today, showing that Bill never stops learning about the game. Here, he takes notes from Tedy B, who has been present over the last few sessions.

More tomorrow? You bet. L F G

Patriots defense devoid of cohesion, magnifying other problems

As someone who has watched Bill Belichick re-build (or should say “try” to re-build) his defense after the dynasty years as closely as anyone I’m just about out of excuses and positive perspectives. Is there anyone left who thinks the Patriots have the ability to stop the pass against an elite offense that knows how […]
