Patriots Tweets Of Note – Training Camp 07/30

July 30, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Day 3 of camp is here! The countdown to pads is on, but the team continues its slow build-up in their mini-camp Esq style of practice. A few noteworthy pieces in today’s Tweets of Note from camp, let’s get at it!

Injury news: C/G Ted Karras remained down after a rep in 11-on-11 drills and after getting up on his own, he is now walking to the medical area with head athletic trainer Jim Whalen.

This was a concern today, up until today *touches wood* there hadn’t been any injury scares, but the news of Teddy K falling over a teammate earlier was a worry. Fortunately, it sounds as if that backup center avoided a serious injury to his left knee. This will be one to watch, although not the end of the world if Karras has to miss some time, the team went out to get him and value his presence in the group.

Rookie RB Rhamondre Stevenson (4th round, Oklahoma) is here at practice in uniform, which indicates that he is coming off the non-football injury list.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) July 30, 2021

The rookie RB stepped onto the practice field for the first time today after beginning camp on PUP. Currently, the team has a stacked room of backs, with the likes of Sony Michel and Damien Harris fighting it out for the lead rushing role, Stevenson will have an opportunity to be a part of the backfield this season if he’s fully fit throughout camp.

Really nice start for Mac Jones in 11v11s. He went 3/3 in the first period. He had two great TD passes to Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne. The one to Agholor was in a tight window. The one to Bourne was a beauty in the corner of the end zone

With a magnifying glass on Jones for pretty much everything he does, it was good to see him have some success in 11v11s. Cam was also noted by many as having a good day and connecting a bunch with some of the new faces in the WR room, one thing is for sure, the QB competition is primed to heat up when the pads come on next week.

Superb catch by Nelson Agholor on an end-zone crosser from Cam Newton. Wideout has been heavily involved today.

Agholor was the WR who everyone was talking about today, by all accounts he had a fine day, making a number of impressive catches from both quarterbacks taking the majority of reps. I’m really coming around to the idea of Agholor being the no 1 target this season.

What an absolute bomb by Bailey, special teams don’t get a whole bunch of coverage as the drills are usually short or at the end of practice. Great to see one of the team’s most consistent players getting that leg zeroed in for the new season.

Overall, the defense is winning practice, as evidence by the push ups the offense is doing for losing the drill. But the key figures on the Pats offense is finding success. Both QBs, Henry, Jonnu, Agholor making plays. #Patriots

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 30, 2021

A common theme over camps in years gone by is that the defense usually starts out on top, this year has been no different. Evan Lazar noted the offense having to do push-ups following another drill loss, but he felt both QB’s, TE’s and Nelson Agholor made some plays.

For me, promising to hear the two top FA TE’s get into some rhythm, I think they’re going to play a big part this season, and their presence will dictate how the offensive schemes will look early on.

More tomorrow, LFG!
