Patriots Tweets Of Note – Minicamp Edition – #3

June 16, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

So here we are at the end of spring! The time since the Draft has flown by and we’ve had the chance to take a first look at the Patriots 2021 rookie class.

Training camp is next, but first, let’s check out all of the Tweets of Note from the third and final day of media availability at minicamp.

Bill Belichick huddled the team together at the end of camp to honor Ernie Adams in his final practice with the Patriots. The whole team loudly cheered for Adams as he heads off into retirement.

A big moment today as Ernie Adams took part in his final training session with the team. Bill allowed Ernie to have the final five minutes or so of his press conference as he took questions from the media.

It’s bittersweet to see Ernie go, bitter because it’s now the start of a number of long-serving coaches that will be soon heading into retirement and Ernie is not replaceable. But sweet because he’s earned his rest in his later life, a veteran of almost half a century in the NFL.

Thank you Ernie.

I’ll expand on this over the next few days as we put a bow on spring practices. The fit thing certainly doesn’t make Cam bad nor does it mean Mac starts Week 1. But it’s a good thing that the #Patriots’ future fits what they want to do on O (quick decision maker, accurate, etc.).

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) June 16, 2021

A strong day back for Newton by all accounts, struggled the last few days with the weather and just accuracy in general, but today, he was the top QB.

The reports of Mac Jones becoming frustrated and angry with his performance during the latter part of the session intruigs me, I think it’s a good sign of the kid knowing he has to be better and holding himself to a higher standard. It’s the first time we’ve heard about that sort of emotion from Jones, I like it, shows he cares.

Same five Patriots absent today:

Stephon Gilmore
Chase Winovich
Terez Hall
Byron Cowart
Rashod Berry

All five missed all three minicamp practices.

Jonnu Smith (hamstring) again was present but didn’t participate.

— Zack Cox (@zm_cox) June 16, 2021

As expected, the same five miss out on the final day of spring practice. The focus towards camp will be on the health of Jonnu Smith and a few other players who picked up knocks during the past few weeks.

Perfect day for the final minicamp practice. Nice session for Cam Newton with his best day of OTAs. pic.twitter.com/FhSAf0HABI

Mike D captures a great shot from his vantage point looking over practice today. One for any fans planning to head to camp this summer, look at that scene!

I'm told Chase Winovich's absence from minicamp is for nothing major. The plan is for the Patriots OLB to be ready for training camp, per source.

— Doug Kyed (@DougKyed) June 16, 2021

A question mark forming around the absence of Winovich did get an answer today, the only thing I can think of is a personal matter or that he’s dealing with an injury. Doug Kyed nods that whatever it is, it’s nothing serious, and the Patriots expect him to be ready for training camp.

With added competition at his position following free agency and the Draft, Winovich can’t afford to miss time.

Eyes on Patriots WRs: A closer look at one drill from Tuesday, as they work on coming back to the ball, with assistants Mick Lombardi and Troy Brown instructing.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) June 16, 2021

Mike Reiss provided some footage earlier of the WR group working out yesterday. A better look at some who are in the mix for a roster spot this season, along with others who are planning on being the team’s pass-catchers this year.

A good time to point out Bill’s message of this spring-time being a teaching phase of season prep, can’t wait to see these guys ramp it up later on at camp with the pads on.
