Patriots Tweets Of Note – Minicamp Edition – #1

June 14, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Minicamp is here! – Mandatory attendance is required or the team can fine missing players who aren’t given an excused absence.

Let’s check out all of the Tweets of Note from day 1 of media availability at minicamp.

#Patriots star CB Stephon Gilmore, who wants a new contract and is rehabbing from a partially torn quad, is not present at the team’s mandatory minicamp today, source said.

Well, this was on the cards since last season, Gilmore is not attending minicamp as he enters the final year of his contract with the team. Gilmore will probably get paid eventually, but one thing is for sure, he’s not showing up until he does.

The Patriots QB competition commences on day one of mandatory minicamp. Looking like Mac Jones had a slight edge over Cam Newton in terms of accuracy with the rain coming down. pic.twitter.com/m9sM73Menm

Cam was back today following his hand injury circus, he led the reps, followed by Jones, who for most in attendance, had his best media attended practice. Newton didn’t look great from the clips that surfaced on Twitter, clearly struggling in the elements today.

Stidham also had another positive day with a number of good throws, Hoyer had a practice to forget.

N’Keal Harry has not stood out to this juncture although based on his build and game; would think his best chance to shine would be when there’s more contact. #Patriots pic.twitter.com/fQYXYpLCAg

Oh N’Keal Harry, how you toy with our hearts. What must be the last chance for Harry to show some sort of first round talent rests on this upcoming training camp. Harry, looking trimmer and more determined, cuts on a route drill in today’s session. Man, he’s frustrating, but you can’t help want the kid to succeed.

Jakobi Meyers continues to pop. He had a nice practice with some solid catches. At this point, I wonder if he turns out to be the Patriots WR1

— Mark Daniels (@ByMarkDaniels) June 14, 2021

Meyers continues to be consistent in these off-season sessions, my pick to have a big year with the team. Mark Daniels mentions him as a potential WR 1, and whilst I don’t agree that he’ll be at the top of the depth chart, he’s in serious contention to break the top 3.

Just a brief look at TE Jonnu Smith during this rainy practice. He didn't finish after possibly tweaking his hamstring, and was seen speaking with athletic trainer Jim Whalen.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) June 14, 2021

Jonnu Smith gave the media spectators a scare today after a hamstring issue during the rain filled session. Hunter Henry had an injury concern last week, which luckily turned out to be nothing serious, let’s hope this is the same.

Stephon Gilmore, Chase Winovich, Byron Cowart, Terez Hall and Rashod Berry were the only players absent from practice in a driving rainstorm.

The now very small list of missing players from minicamp. Barring Gilmore, the others absent are more than likely down to personal issues or injury concerns. Will focus over the next few days to see if there are any injury concerns heading into training camp.

With Gilmore missing for now, J.C. Jackson led the CB group in today’s session alongside Johnathan Jones. Boy, that rain looks nasty.

Fans always have their secret favorite players that they want to make the roster each year, mine for this season at the minute is Myles Bryant, I think the kid has something to bring to the corner group this season.
