Game Time: 1:00 PM EST

The Patriots got off to a fast start at Empower Field after the Broncos spilled a Ryan Allen punt which was recovered by Jacob Hollister. On the resulting possession, Tom Brady found Rex Burkhead over the middle for a 14-yard touchdown.

After the Broncos stalled following a long drive downfield, they settled for a field goal. Denver kicked off to return possession to New England and Dion Lewis received the kick around three yards deep in the Patriots endzone and bolted 103 yards to the house for an incredible touchdown.

Again Denver tried to fire back, but could only settle with another field goal. Patriots also matched this when they couldn’t convert in the red zone and also settled for three points.

As the second quarter rolled on, the teams both had a further field goal conversion each and the Patriots launched a late quarter drive into Broncos territory. Within the final minute, Brady fired a laser to Dwayne Allen for an 11-yard touchdown. Halftime- Patriots 27-9 Broncos.

Brock Osweiler finally found the end zone for Denver with a seven-yard pass over the middle to Demaryius Thomas for their only touchdown of the game.

Brady orchestrated a brilliant counter-attack which ended with Lewis rushing for his second touchdown of the night. The scoring was soon complete with Brady going to James White for a six-yard touchdown. Osweiler finished off proceedings by throwing an interception to Patrick Chung. Final- Patriots 41-16 Broncos.

Patriots vs Chiefs – Player Ups & Downs

October 6, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

I don’t think I’m speaking out of line when I say that following the news of Cam Newton’s positive COVID-19 test, the expectation to win last night’s game was pretty much nonexistent. But when we look back, I can’t help think we could have stolen a win last night. Here are Week 4’s ups and downs.

Ups ⬆️

Damien Harris

We were finally able to see Damien Harris lead the Patriots backfield last night, and it was promising stuff. Harris finished with 17 carries for 100 yards, his longest run being a 41 yard gain.

#Patriots film: Damien Harris for 41 yards on cross-lead. Notice his initial rush path. By following Johnson, he gets the KC LBs to flow to the FB. Helps Herron fit his block, and once Herron gets #54 inside, Harris bounces it and accelerates. That's how you set up your blocks. pic.twitter.com/lIBqf0kLdX

— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) October 6, 2020

With Michel out for three weeks at least, Harris has a golden opportunity to stay atop of the running back depth chart, and one way to stay there is to keep having big yardage games, just a shame he couldn’t score the team any points, they needed it.

Patriots place Sony Michel, Cody Davis on IR, promote three to main roster for KC game

October 5, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Per Field Yates, the Patriots are placing RB Sony Michel on IR today. A tough break for Sony who had one of his better games as a Patriot against Las Vegas, he’ll be out with a quad injury for at least three weeks.

S/ST Cody Davis also unsurprisingly ends up on IR, he missed practice all week and now is given a few weeks to recover.

Backfield roster shuffling for the Patriots: Sony Michel is off to IR after suffering a quad injury, while Damien Harris is being activated to the roster after missing three games due to a hand injury.

— Field Yates (@FieldYates) October 5, 2020

Now, here’s what we’ve been waiting for, RB Damien Harris is off IR and active for tonight, he’ll surely be lead back to begin proceedings and the first time we’ll get to see him in a meaningful role as a Patriot.

In addition to Damien Harris, the #Patriots activated WR Gunner Olszewski from IR and WR Isaiah Zuber as a COVID-19 replacement.

— Jim McBride (@globejimmcbride) October 5, 2020

WR Gunner Olszewski has also been activated from IR and will be active tonight, along with fellow WR Isaiah Zuber, who gets another chance to show what he can do as the team’s official COVID-19 replacement.

Patriots Sunday Supplement 10/4

October 4, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

(Staff Photo By Faith Ninivaggi/ Boston Herald/ Media News Group)

What a crazy 24 hours it’s been, the news broke yesterday afternoon that starting QB Cam Newton had tested positive for COVID-19, today’s game was postponed and looks set to be played on Monday night (10/5).

Patriots-Chiefs will kick off at 7:05 ET with full telecast on Monday night on CBS; Falcons-Packers kicks off at 8:50 et, per source.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 4, 2020

Cam Tests Positive

According to reports, Newton was informed about his positive test late Friday night and went straight into self-quarantine. The team had players at the facility yesterday who were then sent home when optimism to play as scheduled on Sunday faded.

The Chiefs had their own problems with the virus as practice squad QB Jordan Ta’amu also had a positive test. As of right now, no other Patriots or Chiefs players/staff members have tested positive.

The current plan, pending the results of point of care tests, is for #Patriots–#Chiefs to play on Monday, sources tell me and @TomPelissero. It’s the preference from both teams, and there have been no additional positives so far, which is a positive sign.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 4, 2020

Hopefully Cam has a full and speedy recovery and that nobody else is impacted by this.

Quarterback Questions

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

So with Newton set to miss at least the game against Kansas City, Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer will lead the team in Week 4.

Ian Rapoport reports the Patriots intend to start Hoyer when the game takes place. This isn’t a huge surprise to me, Hoyer has the greater game experience and has been active as the official backup in every week so far this season.

With Cam Newton out vs the #Chiefs due to a COVID-19 positive test, the #Patriots are expected to start Brian Hoyer vs KC whenever it is, sources say. Not a surprise, as he was the other QB active besides Newton.

Injury Check-In

In Friday’s injury report, only one player was confirmed out along with five as questionable for today’s game against Kansas City.

OUT
S/ST Cody Davis
DOUBTFUL
NONE
QUESTIONABLE
DL Adam Butler (Shoulder)
WR Julian Edelman (Knee)
OL Shaq Mason (Calf)
RB Sony Michel (Quad)
OL Isaiah Wynn (Calf)

With an extra day of rest, I suspect all five questionable players to suit up on Monday or Tuesday without any issue. Cody Davis remains out and could be heading for a spot on IR.

Roster Moves

Just a few practice squad moves to report on from this past week, along with Cam being placed on the reserve/COVID list.
Practice Squad
Signed
OL Jordan Roos
LB Michael Pinckney
Released
WR Mason Kinsey
DL Xavier Williams
Reserve/COVID list
QB Cam Newton

BREAKING- Patriots vs Chiefs Postponed until Monday or Tuesday

October 3, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Not a huge surprise, but tomorrow’s game has now been postponed until Monday or Tuesday next week. The key thing to keep an eye on is the results from today’s tests.

Patriots-Chiefs game is being postponed and is expected to be played Monday or Tuesday, per source.

The Chiefs also have COVID issues of their own…

It’s not just New England: #Chiefs practice squad QB Jordan Ta'amu has tested positive for COVID-19 and is being added to the reserve list, per me and @MikeGarafolo.

BREAKING – Cam Newton tests positive for COVID-19

October 3, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

(AP Photo/Steven Senne, Pool)

Wow, this is a big one, first reported by Field Yates and Adam Schefter, Cam Newton has tested positive for COVID-19 and is out of tomorrow’s game against Kansas City.

Patriots’ QB Cam Newton tested positive and is out for Sunday’s game vs. Kansas City, per @FieldYates and me.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 3, 2020

This is the first problem the Patriots have had with the virus so far this season, and it rules out their starting quarterback. Cam has been placed on the reserve/COVID list also according to Tom Pelissero.

This is isolated. So as of right now, it’s only Cam Newton. https://t.co/Gb4kdUKBFM

Week 4 Injury Check-In – 10/2 -Game Projections

October 2, 2020 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Sunday is upon us, let’s take a look at the final injury report of the week that include the official game status projections.

The season is well underway, and many sportsbooks, including some that are listed on My Betting Sites, have the Patriots priced at +250 to beat the Chiefs.

New England Patriots

OUT
S/ST Cody Davis
DOUBTFUL
NONE
QUESTIONABLE
DL Adam Butler (Shoulder) – Limited today
WR Julian Edelman (Knee) – Limited today
OL Shaq Mason (Calf) – Limited today
RB Sony Michel (Quad) – Limited today
OL Isaiah Wynn (Calf) – Limited today

No real surprises that Cody Davis misses out on Sunday’s clash with the Chiefs, he may end up on IR at some point, depending on the severity of his rib injury.

Butler, Edelman, Mason, Michel, and Wynn are all questionable for Sunday, will monitor their status over the weekend, but I wouldn’t expect any of them to miss out.
