Bill Belichick was effusive about cornerback Aqib Talib this week. “He’s a good football player, good teammate [and] he’s very well-respected because of his professionalism,” Belichick said. “He studies hard and prepares well. He’s tough. He competes well, both in practice and on Sundays. Smart kid. I like him; the team likes him.” That quote prompted this text from a league source, who knew Talib with the Buccaneers: “Belichick is such a master manipulator of personalities [in a good way]. Knowing Talib very well, that’s EXACTLY what he needs to hear.”

Patriots should edge Ravens in another hard-fought game – Sports – The Boston Globe

Good breakdown from Bedard…

I don’t think either team will pressure the quarterback well. The Patriots are not going to allow themselves to get beat deep, so they’ll play a lot of two-deep safeties, and pick their spots to blitz and drop Gregory down as a robber to read Flacco’s eyes in the middle when he throws to Boldin and Pitta. The Patriots’ best chances at a pass rush are working off the attention the Ravens are sure to give Vince Wilfork, and Rob Ninkovich against right tackle Michael Oher. The Ravens need Suggs and Kruger to play the game of their lives. So that’s why, outside of turnovers, the key to victory will be which team runs the best. It’s a very even matchup without Gronkowski sealing the edge, but I think Josh McDaniels will scheme up some deception, and the Patriots will make a few plays with the no-huddle to gain the slim edge.

As Patriots players were wrapping up their work day Friday, one final meeting was called. It was with the kickoff coverage unit. The Patriots struggled in that area against the Texans last Sunday, and today, they face the NFL’s No. 1 ranked unit led by Jacoby Jones. The best explanation for the struggles last week was this: 1) Too many players were getting single-blocked. The message was that players had to do better getting off blocks; 2) The Texans favored a “middle return” and coverage players didn’t play with good enough leverage against the wedge. That’s an area that naturally received a lot of attention this week.

the Patriots only had 34 carries for 77 yards against the Ravens last time they played in Week 3. Since that game, New England has averaged 141 yards rushing. New England led the NFL in rushing touchdowns with 27 and is especially dangerous in the red zone.

Patriots Scouting Report: Super Bowl 52 vs. Eagles

I’ve spent the last few days taking a look at a bunch of Eagles games and, like last week watching the Jags, it’s been an enjoyable experience. I get so caught up trying to decipher the Pats game film each week of the regular season that I never get much of a chance to check […]
