BREAKING – WR N’Keal Harry formally requests trade out of New England

July 6, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Well, I certainly didn’t see this coming.

Actually, that’s a bit of a lie, I saw Harry potentially leaving this off-season, however, I didn’t see him and his agent requesting a formal trade from the team.

— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) July 6, 2021

I actually saw Harry’s first-ever NFL touchdown in person at the game against Dallas in 2019, a rookie season in which he struggled through injuries and not grasping the trust of Tom Brady.

And really, the disappointment is visible in his career NFL stats..

Bye Bye Burkhead!

June 2, 2021 by Clare Cooper

(AP Photo/Frank Victores)

Well there you have it folks, Rex Burkhead has become a Houston Texan. Great. Fabulous. Wonderful.

Anyone feel like Nick Caserio is picking off Patriots like candy!? Hmm, a piece of candy… oh another piece of candy… No, just me? Okay, never mind.

Now, forgive me, it is great for Rex. Kentucky born, raised in Texas. Houston is perfect location wise, especially for his family.

But I mean come on! Anyone wanna grab a box of tissues and have a bit of a sob with me? This guy was a powerhouse in 2020 for the offence, and his versatility is outstanding! He can run the ball, catch passes, block in pass protection AND play on special teams! Talk about the gift that keeps on giving, am I right?

But we, as Patriots fans, know that Coach Bill lets players go whilst there is still a bit in the tank and I think that this is the case here, that and well the running back room is probably a bit of a squeeze at the moment.

I know I’m an emotional fan, I openly admit to this, possibly daily, and whilst I completely see the reasoning behind it all, I can still be bummed out, at least a little bit.

As I have mentioned here before, that’s what being a fan is, passion. And so I still stood on my soap box for Ryan Izzo, kept my fingers crossed that the Patriots drafted Pat Freiermuth (he’s the future baby!) Even though there were technically three fullbacks (counting Dalton Keene) on the roster I was still gunning to see Danny Vitale, and so I still hoped that even though he is a 30 year old, coming off injury running back, Coach would ensure the return of Sexy Rexy to the fold.

But alas t’was not meant to be and in all seriousness I wish him nothing but well, and really hope he gets to play out the end of his career in the way he wants to.

And as for the Patriots running back depth we are presently looking at:

James White

J.J Taylor

Sony Michel

Damien Harris

Brandon Bolden

Tyler Gaffney

Not forgetting the drafting of Rhamondre Stevenson, so I guess none too shabby really!

So whilst we wave goodbye to one of the beloved Patriots who was with us for some of the Super Bowl era shouting “We love you Rex! Thanks for everything! We will miss you!”, we march onwards and upwards and on to Cincinnati I guess, or should that be Houston even…

Report – Patriots 2021 leaked schedule

May 12, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

(Staff Photo By Faith Ninivaggi/ Boston Herald/ Media News Group)

We knew the NFL wouldn’t get their chance to announce every team’s full schedule during prime time this evening, their plans spoiled as most of the schedule was leaked throughout this morning/afternoon.

So let’s take a look at the soon to be confirmed Patriots schedule-

This is identical to the schedule I've been working to confirm today. I believe this is the Patriots' accurate regular-season schedule. Haven't seen this preseason version yet, but that'd make sense to be accurate as well. https://t.co/Ye8dqCQJfm

— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) May 12, 2021

The big ones off the bat are the return of Brady to Gillette Stadium and Belichick vs the number one pick Trevor Lawrence in early January.

This list has been confirmed by multiple reporters, but the official schedule will be confirmed tonight during the NFL’s schedule release on NFL Network.

Personally, I’m excited about the Titans game late in November, I’m planning on heading to Boston again for Thanksgiving! The season is getting closer! LFG

Patriots pick QB Mac Jones in the first round of 2021 Draft

April 29, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

VIA: MARK J. REBILAS-USA TODAY SPORTS

The New England Patriots have selected a quarterback in the first round of an NFL Draft for the first time since they took Drew Bledsoe in 1993. Mac Jones, the former CFB National Champion with Alabama is heading to New England.

Lawrence, Wilson, and Lance went 1,2,3, then Justin Fields, who many thought could end up in New England was taken by the Bears after they gave up a haul of picks to move up to Pick 11.

Jones talking on the post draft video conference call for Patriots.com

In my breakdown of the expert mock drafts earlier this week, I said “Now, taking him (Jones) at 15, if the team loves him, I’m fine with, but I don’t want them to give up their future capital for Jones.” – This is exactly how things panned out, the Patriots were patient and managed to get their QB for the future.

I for one am pretty excited by this, now Jones wasn’t the top QB on my list, but the team has some belief in him, and that goes a long way with me, I just want to see how he progresses in camp now.

Mac Jones becomes the 11th player Bill Belichick has drafted that played under Nick Saban in college, extending the record for the most players taken by a pro-college coach combo in the Common Draft era.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 30, 2021

The Belichick-Saban connection continues as Schefter notes, that relationship will have played a huge part in this pick, remember, the Patriots had a chance to take Jordan Love last year whilst being in the same QB situation, but didn’t. They could have passed on Jones here, but they clearly like him enough to use their 15th pick.

BREAKING – Julian Edelman announces his retirement from football

April 12, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

Twitter – @Edelman11

Well, here it is. After 11 seasons with the Patriots, number 11 Julian Edelman, has announced his retirement from football.

https://twitter.com/Edelman11/status/1381722282570170373?s=20

He goes out in the classy way that Jules always conducted himself, watch the whole video above, and be prepared for tears.

I’m sad it’s ended like this for Jules, a fine player who will be remembered as one of the greatest Patriots of the dynasty era, but the last few years have been difficult to get through as his body has slowly broken down.

I’ll remember watching him run the length of the field on TV here in England on late nights hoping to see him do it in person one day. Luckily, I did, in November 2019 against the Cowboys, in the pouring rain and snow, Edelman raced out into a wild reception, as he always did at Gillette. It was amazing.

The passing touchdowns, the catch in Super Bowl 51, his MVP performance in Super Bowl 53, his community spirit for Boston, and his love for his teammates.

Julian Edelman is one of the great success stories in our franchise’s history. There aren’t many players who earn an NFL roster spot at a position they have never played before. Julian not only did that as a seventh-round draft selection, but he is retiring with the second-most career receptions in franchise history and as a three-time Super Bowl Champion, including his last as Super Bowl MVP. No one was more committed to his craft and honing his skills than Jules. His explosiveness off the line, quickness in his cuts and elusiveness after the catch made him one of the hardest players to defend throughout his career. His clutch catches in our biggest games and overall toughness made him a fan favorite. Over the past 12 years, I have enjoyed watching him grow as a player, as a person and as a father. In 2019, I had the privilege of traveling to Israel with Julian, which might be the only place where he is more popular than here in New England.

As we reflect on number 11’s career with the #Patriots, let’s take a look at some of his greatest moments. First, “The Catch” pic.twitter.com/CowMogVsCy

— PatsPropaganda (@PatsPropaganda) April 12, 2021

By any measure of what constitutes an elite NFL career – wins, championships, production – Julian has it all, Few players can match Julian’s achievements, period, but considering his professional trajectory and longevity, the group is even more select. It is historic. This is a tribute to his legendary competitiveness, mental and physical toughness and will to excel. Day in and day out, Julian was always the same: all out. Then, in the biggest games and moments, with championships at stake, he reached even greater heights and delivered some of his best, most thrilling performances. For all Julian did for our team, what I may appreciate the most is he was the quintessential throwback player. He could, and did, do everything – catch, run, throw, block, return, cover and tackle – all with an edge and attitude that would not allow him to fail under any circumstance. Julian Edelman is the ultimate competitor and it was a privilege to coach him.

Bill Belichick via Patriots.com

The final chapter in a fairy-tale career, it’s been a hell of a ride.

Thank-you 11.

The Patriots release three players, including K Justin Rohrwasser

March 23, 2021 by Tom Shaw-Mellors

(AP Photo/Michael Dwyer, Pool)

Some news today that the team has moved on from Justin Rohrwasser, Cassh Maluia, and Michael Pinckney according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

The Patriots have waived kicker Justin Rohrwasser today.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) March 23, 2021

I’m surprised Rohrwasser made it through his entire rookie season without being cut, his initial arrival was overshadowed by the whole tattoo fiasco, before his lack of visibility on the practice field through-out training camp raised questions.

Finally, he was beaten out by Nick Folk for the entire year and Roberto Aguayo’s arrival in the weeks after the team’s season ended merely sealed his fate.

The Patriots have waived LB Cassh Maluia and LB Michael Pinckney. The arrival of free-agent LB Raekwon McMillan, among others, bump them off the roster.

— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) March 23, 2021

The news of the two linebackers who were cut today doesn’t come across to me as a final goodbye. With the arrival of Raekwon McMillan, Kyle Van Noy, and Matt Judon, the positional room is a lot busier than a few weeks ago, so, whilst Maluia and Pinckney are gone for now, I wouldn’t be surprised if they turn up again in time for camp.
